Planning to beat the autumn blues and indulge in scrumptious food at the same time? Head over to the coastal paradise of Mornington Peninsula this March because there are a wide range of mouthwateringly tempting culinary events to attend.

Here, we cast a spotlight on the three top foodie favourite events unfolding across the area over the month of March.

1) The Peninsula Picnic

Widely regarded as the premier food, wine and music gathering in these parts, the Peninsula Picnic is back for 2016 on Saturday March 20. Expect an even bigger musical lineup this year compared to the last, so you can enjoy listening to even more fabulous tunes as you tuck into delicious food. Highlights include the sweet songbird sounds of Missy Higgins and Kim Churchill, who will be performing this year.

Delight in meals from gourmet restaurants, tasting the fresh local produce and complementing your flavour combinations with vino from decadent local wineries. There's a country harvest atmosphere that is simply charming. For any craft lovers, there will also be artisan wares for sale. Remember to pack a picnic blanket into your suitcase before you come stay in Mornington Peninsula, so you can truly enjoy this spectacular event in comfort.

2)  Peninsula Pinot and Piers

Another stellar foodie event this month is the Peninsula Pinot and Piers, a must-do for wine aficionados. Held over Labour Day long weekend on March 13, the event is hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association and boasts nearly 20 Pinot producers from the region. These pinot experts will gather by the sea for this annual event, sharing tips and advice on the hints and accents found in their creations.

Since there are more than 60 maritime cool climate pinots to try, taste a wide variety including  Peninsula Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Grigio. After all, as a true foodie will know, what better way to travel and explore a terrain than by tasting its fruits and food creations? Peninsula Pinot will be an ideal souvenir of your trip to this picturesque part of Victoria.

3) Art of cooking classes for woodfire pizza, butchery and sausages

Throughout Saturday nights during the month of March, Green Olive at Red Hill hosts impressive cookery classes. Highlights include their 'Art of Woodfire Pizza Oven' class on March 12 and 'Techniques of Butchery Cooking' class on March 19. There's also a handmade sausage cooking lesson on March 26, for those of you who'd love to master this skill and serve a breakfast of champions to guests who come visit your home for brunch. You'll learn what the best cuts of meat are to use in sausages, how to grind them and also which herbs to use – among other tips and tricks.

The pizza class will give you a chance to customise your creation by picking your favourite hard and soft herbs, vegetables and ingredients from the chef's kitchen. As for the butchery tips, imagine the joys of making a perfect lamb or other tender meat dish with finesse because you have the chopping and de-boning skills of a pro? Foodie heaven.

Of course, all year long the Mornington Peninsula is an excellent travel destination for foodies thanks to the variety of vineyards, gourmet restaurants and charming farmer's markets that occur on a weekly basis. No matter when you come here for a holiday, you are guaranteed to leave with a full belly and a dance of flavours on your tongue.
