Horse Riding

Hop on a horse and ride in the hoof prints of the Peninsula’s early farming pioneers. Much of the hinterland is still farming country, and trail ride operators know all the best bridle paths and bush tracks for a great day in the saddle.

Never ridden a horse? There are pony rides for kids and adult riding lessons. No experience is needed for some trail rides: you can go with a gentle horse and expert guide on a winery tour, or take an easy bush ride to a spectacular ocean beach or through a national park.

Gunnamatta Trail Rides

Gunnamatta Trail Rides and Equestrian Centre offers horse rides to the spectacular St Andrews Ocean Beach on the Mornington Peninsula situated between Gunnamatta Ocean Beach and the Rye Back Beach.

No experience is necessary and in fact 50% of tourists that enjoy this ride had never ridden a horse before. Gunnamatta Trail Rides has 60 beautiful horses and is open 365 days a year. They provide helmets, riding instructions and there is a kiosk for drinks, chocolates and souvenirs. Note that bookings are essential.

Their St Andrews Bush & Beach Ride offers an amazing experience for all age groups (10 – 75 year olds) with wonderful horses, helpful & friendly staff and absolutely breath-taking views from the lofty sand dunes along the ocean beach. Trotting or cantering along the shoreline watching the waves crashing over rocks as you ride is an incredible experience. The horses generally like a paddle through the water and there are plenty of opportunities for the essential photos.

There are also Bush Rides to the Green’s Bush National Park for the more experienced riders and Private Rides are available on most rides. Riding lessons are available for beginners to advanced riders with the ‘Back to Riding” classes becoming very popular.

Pony rides for the children are always popular as are Gunnamatta’s 3 hour and 5½ hour Kids Program that run every weekend and every day on school holidays. The Kids Program is structured to suit all ages from 6 – 16 years and has introduced many youngsters to the love of horses and horse riding. The Kids Programs include riding lessons, bush rides, horse care, gymkhana games and a wonderful horse experience. Full details of all rides can be found on our Internet Site.

Ace-Hi offers easy access to all attractions on the Peninsula including some of Victoria’s best beaches and National Parks. Ace-Hi Ranch is set on 200 acres with views of green pastures and horses grazing – it’s like a little town with Bass Strait in the background. The theme that makes up the ‘Ace-Hi Experience’ is one of ‘The Old West’. Since its opening Ace-Hi has always portrayed a western theme and this has helped us establish ourselves as a truly unique and exciting adventure theme park.

Our little town consists of a number of themed facilities including two homesteads, authentic wagons & an old red rattler train carriage. The sheriff’s office & jail house together with the livery stable located in the same area. The beautiful sandstone chapel restaurant makes the perfect dining hall. Our 12 en-suite log cabins add to the charm.
