Mornington Peninsula is one of the prime locations for people looking for a great holiday destination in Victoria<\/a>. Miles and miles of sandy beaches, great outdoor activities, exquisite dining options and a huge selection of quality vineyards all contribute to its stellar reputation.<\/p>\n

Surrounded by deep blue ocean means that visitors who love getting their feet wet are never short of something to do while they're here. If this describes you, try out some of these great water-based adventures once you've played a few relaxing rounds of golf<\/a> at Moonah Links.<\/p>\n

Under the sea: Snorkelling and scuba diving<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mornington Peninsula's position between Port Phillip and Western Port Bays make it a treasure trove of marine biology. Over 500 species of fish and more than 1,000 species of marine plants reside along the 260 kilometres of peninsula coastline.<\/p>\n

There are tonnes of opportunities for both beginner and experienced snorkellers and divers to get a closer look at the fascinating underwater world. The Octopuses garden trail at Rye Pier is ideal for snorkelling thanks to its safe location and eclectic collection of fish.<\/p>\n

Port Phillip Bay contains over 60 shipwrecks, some dating back to the 19th century, which offer amazing diving opportunities. Check out Extreme Watersport in Rosebud or Bayplay Adventure in Portsea, who both offer guided dives to the best sites in the port. Expect to see lots of octopuses, sea dragons, seahorse and, if you're lucky, maybe some dolphins.<\/p>\n

Above the surface: Fishing<\/strong><\/p>\n

The waters of Port Phillip and the Bass Strait are a popular spot for fishing among tourists and locals alike. Various fishing charters will take you in search of the likes of snapper and bluefin tuna. If you're feeling really adventurous sign up for a Southern Ocean Shark Fishing adventure with Proline Fishing Charters. These multi-day trips depart from Sorrento Pier or Portland Marina between January and April in chase of the mighty mako shark.<\/p>\n

Ride the waves: Surfing and paddle boarding<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mornington Peninsula is home to some of Victoria's best surf beaches. Point Leo, Gunnamatta Ocean Beach and Portsea Back Beach offer perfect conditions for those looking and for seasoned surfers. East Coast Surf School offer beginner lessons at Point Leo and their experienced instructors will take you through the basics and have you riding the waves in no time.<\/p>\n

If surfing isn't your thing, you might enjoy some paddle boarding. Peninsula Stand Up Paddle is based in Rosebud.
