Spring is about colour, and Mornington Peninsula blooms with it

Any season is a good time to take a holiday to Mornington Peninsula, but spring brings with it a certain pizzazz due to the plethora of colours to admire across the peninsula. It's not just the flowers you'd expect to see blooming in every hue under the sun, but also a range of landmarks here worth visiting to bask in colour.

Feast your eyes on the painter's palette of colour across the peninsula by checking out these tourist attractions.

Brighton's brightly coloured bathing boxes

Take one look at these vibrant bathing boxes on Brighton Beach and the tune to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' is likely to spring to mind, because these structures are painted in rainbow-hues. They are cheerful, with pops of yellow next to red and cobalt blue.

Looking much like doll's houses or toys, these have been a staple along the coastline of Port Phillip Bay. Tourism Victoria calls these iconic bathing boxes "the peninsula's symbol of summer" – but that's not to say they aren't as joyous in spring, too! Be sure to see these as you spend lazy days on the beaches, getting the sand between your toes and listening to the soothing waves crash against the shore.

Cranbourne's Royal Botanic Garden

Spring vacations wouldn't be complete without a visit to botanic gardens, and these two are among the crowning jewels of Victoria when it comes to diversity of botanical species. A highlight is the luminous yellow tinge of the 'dillwynia sericea' or showy parrot-pea flower.

After you have seen and smelled the array of petals at Cranbourne, stop for a cup of tea (or glass of wine!) at the on-site Boon Wurrung Cafe. Cakes, pies and sandwiches are sold here as well as in a charming kiosk near the northern end of the Australian Garden.

The coastal sunsets themselves

Yes, there are many parks and gardens with colourful fleurs, and landmarks such as the bathing boxes. But often it is the simple things in life that take our breath away the most, and sunsets in Mornington Peninsula are some of them.

Thanks to being a coastal region, we get to enjoy a mirror effect as the shades of the skies reflect in the waves. Be sure to stroll along the beach at sunset, mesmerised by the painterly tones of the sky, then head back to your hotel with a happy smile and memories of the day.
