Australian Open
The Australian Open has long been regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious golf championships, with a rich history and a roll call of winners that includes some of the game’s greatest names. Each year, Australia’s leading professionals and top international players travelled from around the globe to compete for the coveted Stonehaven Cup.
In 2003 and 2005, Moonah Links proudly hosted the Australian Open on our acclaimed Open Course. This course was the first 18-hole layout in Australia purpose-built for a national championship, offering a true test of skill and strategy. With its natural contours, strategic bunkering, and exceptional spectator viewing platforms, the Open Course was — and remains — one of the longest and most demanding championship courses in Australia, and arguably in the world.
2003 Winner – Peter Lonard (AUS)
2005 Winner – Robert Allenby (AUS)
Moonah Classic
Held at Moonah Links in 2008, 2009, and 2010, the Moonah Classic was a prestigious tournament played on the renowned Open Course. The event was a joint initiative between the PGA of Australia and the Handbury Group, and uniquely co-sanctioned by the US Nationwide Tour, the only tournament in Australia to carry this distinction at the time.
As part of the Nationwide Tour, which serves as the official development tour for the US PGA circuit, the Moonah Classic provided a rare and valuable platform for Australian professionals to compete against rising international talent. With a prize pool of USD $650,000, the event drew attention from across the globe and further cemented Moonah Links’ reputation as a world-class championship venue.

2009 Winner – Alistair Presnell (AUS)
2010 Winner – Jimmy Herman (USA)
VICTORIAN PGA Championship
The PGA Tour of Australasia is the elite tournament destination for professional golf, with a rich history dating back to 1924, the Victorian PGA Championship has seen a number of great players come through and etch their names on the Jack Harris trophy.
Since 2021, Moonah Links has been the host venue for this celebrated championship. It is a coveted title, with players not only chasing victory but also aiming to secure valuable points on the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit. A strong finish can unlock a pathway to overseas playing opportunities, including Major Championships, World Golf Championship events, and exemptions into the final stages of Korn Ferry and European Tour Qualifying Schools.
The tournament format sees both the Legends Course and the Peter Thomson-designed Open Course used for the opening two rounds. The final two rounds are then contested exclusively on the Open Course, providing a fitting stage for the closing drama of one of Australia’s premier professional golf events.
