3 must-do romantic couples activities in Mornington Peninsula

Published on 24th March 2016 in Blog, Mornington Peninsula Activities

If you're planning a romantic getaway with your significant other, the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria oozes charm and is an ideal setting for your escape. This stretch of coastline boasts soft, silky sands and lush rolling hills for your sunset walks down the beach hand-in-hand.

In addition to the natural beauty of the seascapes and sandy shores, there are a multitude of vineyards and wine cellars for a delightful vino-hopping tour through the terrain. Dining with your sweetheart is also a treat thanks to the plethora of quality restaurants in the region, and if you're keen to take it easy and enjoy the luxuries of your accommodation here at Moonah Links, simply stroll over to the acclaimed Pebbles restaurant on site for a mouthwatering meal.

Although the peninsula itself offers a wealth of romantic experiences, the following three are absolute must-do's for a memorable stay.

1. Sunset horseback riding

Transport yourselves to a realm of fantasy and fairytales by embarking on a horseback ride along the beach as the sun dips below the horizon. Local horseback tour providers such as Ace-Hi Ranch and Gunnamatta Trail Rides offer a range of timings, some during the daytime and others during the magical twilight of sunset. The latter is sure to be a cherished experience as you and your partner ride side-by-side into the sunset, literally. Some trails depart from the picturesque Cape Schanck hilltop, famous for being the site of a historic lighthouse.

2. Get a couples vine massage at Peninsula Hot Springs

Located just a stone's throw from Moonah Links, the Peninsula Hot Springs are a must-do in their own right with natural thermal hot springs situated on clifftops with panoramic views of the peninsula. There are also cave pools and a Turkish hamam bath, along with a raft of other stunning pool settings to relax and rejuvenate yourselves.

That said, the best way to unwind is by getting a tranquil couple's vine massage. This option indulges you with the very essence of the Mornington Peninsula by using locally grown and warmed grapes as part of the massage therapeutic treatment. The shiraz grapes of this region are used to create a balm rich in antioxidants, which is soothingly stroked into your body for a hydrating and deeply serene, calming massage. Of course, you can toast to the very grapes that lulled you into this state of serenity by heading to the vineyard after your massage!

3. Go strawberry picking and bite into the fruits of your labour

For only $9, adults can enjoy perhaps one of the most economical yet sweet dates ever – strawberry picking for 500 grams of goodness. The Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm on Mornington Peninsula is renowned for its plump berries, which you collect in a quaint punnet upon entry.

While they change up the variety of strawberries they grow, the most recent bounty was of Albion and Viva Patricia strawberries. In fact, Sunny Ridge was the first farm in all of Australia to grow the Albion variety, which is native to California. These Californian native berries are sought after for their dark maroon-red hue and firm flesh, coupled with a strong, tempting aroma and exceptionally sweet flavour. Meanwhile, the Viva Patricia berries hail from the United Kingdom originally and are cherished for their large size and soft, plump skin.

Pick the berries until you both fill up your punnets, then swap berries and bite into the sugary sensation of the fruits! Take some back with you to your hotel room and consider ordering room service champagne for the ultimate romantic bubbly and berry combination to finish off your romantic weekend escapades.
