Published on 7th February 2016 in Blog, Mornington Peninsula Activities

When the summer heat is beating down during your holiday in Victoria at Moonah Links, it might be tempting to cosy up in your air-conditioned room with a book. However, the surrounding area has many gorgeous beaches where you can go swimming and be back for dinner at Pebbles restaurant feeling refreshed. Here are three such beaches to consider if you're wondering what to do on Mornington Peninsula:

Mount Martha's South Beach

Located on the Port Phillip side of the peninsula, the south side of Mount Martha's beach is a beautiful 1-kilometre stretch of white sand. With a full range of facilities including a lifesaving club and toilets, Mount Martha's is a convenient and comfortable place to spend your day. If you get tired of the ocean, the seaside town of Mount Martha offers plenty distractions including cafes and the Original OZ Art Gallery, featuring unique Australian art.

Point Leo Surf Beach

Just a short drive away from Moonah Links Resort, Point Leo Surf Beach is located on the southeast coast of the peninsula. The beach is around 500  metres long and is capped by rocky zones at each end, providing potential for interesting rock pool exploration at low tides. The beach itself is swim-safe, with deep water off shore only at high tide and the surf lifesaving club patrolling on weekends from November until Easter. For surf enthusiasts, Point Leo has some excellent breaks offshore on the reefs and point when the conditions are right. If you're more of a landlubber, the Point Leo Foreshore Reserve, directly inland from the beach, offers the opportunity to explore the wetlands with numerous trails where birds such as ibises and cormorants can be spotted.

Safety Beach

As its name suggests, Safety Beach is a peaceful stretch of white sandy shore with beautiful views of the surrounding area. The shallow and calm waters in combination with an onsite playground make this a perfect place to bring the kids. For sailors, the Safety Beach Sailing Club was established in the early '70s and still offers lessons, races and social events. Finally, the nearby chemist and gourmet food store ensures that you can grab sunscreen or an ice cream whenever you need it.
